For a first-time tandem skydiver, the cost of a single tandem skydive might be a little boggling. Trust us--we get it--but sidle on up over here, new friend. Let's step behind the scenes and take a look at the moving parts, 'cause there's more to this than meets the eye.
1. Anything That Flies...Costs.
Anything having to do with aviation is spendy, spendy, spendy. Purchasing a plane? Whoa, expensive. Maintaining a plane? Whoa, expensive. This is one sphere where expense can't be spared to keep passengers and pilots safe, so y'know what? We don't spare those expenses. We pony up so you don't have to worry.
2. Skydiving Equipment Flies.
Rule #2 follows Rule #1: anything that flies, costs, and skydiving equipment definitely flies. (That's the whole point, right?) Parachuting equipment is basically, like, the fabric equivalent of solid gold. A great dropzone gets the best stuff and keeps it in pristine condition. (Spoiler: we're definitely a great dropzone.) Great equipment makes a big difference on a skydive, too--especially in that nice, soft landing at the end.
3. Our Staff Flies.
Of course, Rule #3 sticks with the theme of Rules 1 and 2. Our instructors, our pilots and our staffers are high-flyin' professionals that have earned their chops in the sky over the course of many, many jumps--and they have the long list of licenses to prove it! We don't hire Joe Shmo, y'know. The people are the most important element of any given dropzone. We hire the best...and that ain't cheap, either.
4. The Associated Costs Are Taking Off, Too.
We aren't here to complain. We love skydiving, and we love bringing stoked new jumpers into the sport, and we're far from bellyachin'. But you asked, so here it is: Fuel is less expensive than it was a few years ago, but when it comes to Jet-A and AV Gas (which we use to run our aircraft), it's still wicked expensive stuff. Add to that the rising costs of aircraft insurance, third-party insurance and rent, and y'know--when you throw those numbers into a graphing calculator, and it ends up looking kinda like this:
5. It's So, So, So, So Worth It.
Okay, this isn't a reason why skydiving costs so much. It's the reason why it's okay for skydiving to cost what it costs, because we're still gonna do it until there's no more gravity left on the planet.
Skydiving is where you can get the best perspective you've ever had on your life and the way you live it. Skydiving is where you'll meet lifelong friends--for serious. Skydiving is a fast-track to confidence; to an athletic pursuit that stands apart from every other; to this crazy sense of utter personal freedom.
Ca-ching? Okay. Bring it!
